Kitchen Organization
The high traffic the occurs in the kitchen and dining room areas present a bit more of a challenge than areas that are not as busy. So you'll need to pay some extra time and attention on keeping up the cleaning and organization. Here's help.
Kitchen and Dining Room Organizing Help
When organize your home you'll find that the kitchen and dining rooms are distinctly more challenging then the other rooms. These rooms require cleaning each day, unlike most other rooms which only need a once a week cleaning. You can save time and cut clutter with some organization and planning.
The first thing to do is inventory all your kitchenware, including pots, plans and utensils. When it comes to storage do so based on function. For example, baking items would be best kept close to the oven. Keep prep tools near your work area no matter if it's an island, counter or kitchen table.
Portable workspaces such as islands are great to have and use. Often they will have storage build right in and can be sorted in a pantry, closet or corner when not in use.
One way to save space is to use a pot rock hung from the ceiling, they are easy to install. When you install your pot rack, though, be sure you use proper anchor bolts so that it is stable enough to support the weight. You can find the tools you need at a local hardware store.
If you are short on space, the freezer and pantry can present a problem. One way to reduce the chance of having too much of one item (that is taking up too much space!) is to create a master list for shopping, and keep it updated. One woman smartly stored her excess canned goods and kitchen gadgets in a closed bookshelf in her hall, no one suspected anything.
In the dining room we've got the table which always seems to be the place where clutter ends up. You've got homework and mail dropped on it and projects get done there. If the clutter hasn't completely taken over you eat meals on the table too. If you want to keep this area clean then you'll need to retrain the family to keep things off the table. Touch your mail only once! Throw out junk mail right away and place other mail in a designated place.
A sideboard, if you have one, also has a tendency to attract clutter. Keep it clutter free by decorating it nicely using flowers in a vase along with large serving dishes.
No matter who you are, clutter creates stress you don't need at family meal time or anytime. So keep down the stress, the clutter and keep your dining room cozy for everyone to enjoy.
